The Eighth Hargeisa International Book Fair

This year - the eighth for the Hargeisa International Book Fair - was the biggest one ever. So big, that the venue was changed to a giant hall, with room for several thousand people. 





Somali singers Sahra Ilays and Mahamad BK opened the festival and got us all dancing.

When Somali piracy was at its height, I did a lot of reporting on the subject for the BBC. I spoke to lots of pirates and got to know people involved in trying to stop the problem, including British naval and other military personnel. They did a pretty good job - piracy dropped significantly in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.
